Historic homes near downtown

Winchester’s historic downtown is surrounded by homes built in the late 1800s and early 1900s. These homes often have original cast iron drains, galvanized water lines, ungrounded outlets, and electrical systems that have been updated in stages over the years. Mid-century ranches

Homes built from the 1950s through the 1970s are common in Winchester. By now many have had some updates but not others, so we look carefully at the electrical panel, visible wiring, and receptacles, the plumbing supply and drain lines, and the heating and cooling equipment.

Drainage and foundations

Like much of the Bluegrass, water that isn’t directed away from a house can lead to foundation cracking and damp crawlspaces or basements. We check grading, gutters and downspouts, foundation walls, and below-grade spaces for signs of water intrusion and movement.
